Hydrate Flushing notice OCT 27, 2025.

10/15/2025

A "hydrate flushing notice" is an announcement that your local water utility is performing routine maintenance by opening fire hydrants to clean water mains. This process removes sediment, mineral buildup, and stagnant water, which can temporarily cause reduced water pressure and discolored water, though the water is safe to drink. To clear your pipes, run a cold water tap for a few minutes until the water runs clear.
What to expect
  •  Discolored water: The water may temporarily appear rusty or yellow, but it is safe to use and consume.
  •  Stained laundry: The discolored water can stain laundry. To prevent this, wait to wash clothes until after flushing is complete in your area.
  •  Reduced water pressure: You may experience lower water pressure or flow.
  •  Temporary parking restrictions: Sometimes, parking restrictions are posted a few days in advance to allow crews access to hydrants and valve covers.
